The importance of a blowout
When my clients tell me that their hair never looks like it does when I do it or they complain of breakage from mid shaft to ends, the first thing I do is ask them about their hair routine at home. The common denominator is almost always that those clients go to sleep on wet hair and skip the most important hair care step…the BLOWOUT!!
When you wash your hair and skip the blow out, the cuticle on each strand of hair (the part that can cause frizz) doesn’t get smoothed back down. This causes you to have to use much more heat when styling the next morning and in turn, causes more damage. It is always recommended to use some form of heat protectant along with your styling products to minimize damage as much as possible.
The ultimate goal of anyone who is styling their hair is to make it look like you have a stylist on call, right?? We wish!! There are so many benefits to a blowout but the most common ones are typically smoothing, volumizing, and longer lasting styles. If you’re focused on getting volume, you want to make sure you’re blowing your hair, mainly the roots, in the opposite direction of the way it wants to lay. This will give your roots some lift and prevent those with oily hair from having to wash your hair the next day. If you’re focused on smoothing, be sure to dry your hair completely from roots to ends in a downward direction, preferably with a round brush.

Remember that everything takes practice and doing your own hair is not as easy as it looks. Find a routine that works for you and go from there! Hair is meant to be played with, just make sure you are protecting it! Heat protection and styling products help protect and set your style and dry shampoo in between hair wash days means longer lasting blowouts and less damage.
Happy styling!!
